✈️Day 1: Taichung Youth Check-in Day
After years of dreaming, I finally scored a S$300 flight to Taiwan! Our driver picked us up at Taoyuan Airport at 7 AM, and we fueled up with soy milk and fried dough sticks (豆浆油条) en route to Taichung.
🎨 Meirenli Art Lane: A hidden alley near Guangtian Hospital, where retro murals made us feel like time travelers. (Pro tip: Best lighting before 10 AM!)
🌈 Shalu Dream Street: Instagram heaven! Basketball walls, angel wings, and a “Dream” banner that stole the show.
⛪ The Luce Chapel: Designed by I.M. Pei, this glass chapel at Tunghai University shimmered like a diamond.
🍽️Piano with Forest: A piano-shaped building (drone-worthy!) with surprisingly good food—despite the mandatory per-person order.

Our day began at this whimsical 1,600-ping wonderland where everything was made of paper—even the Eiffel Tower and dining chairs! The NT200entryfee(withNT200entryfee(withNT100 redeemable) was totally worth the photo ops. Pro tip: Try the “paper hot pot” (it’s real food in paper containers!).
🌈 11:00 AM – Rainbow Village (彩虹眷村)
A burst of color saved from demolition! “Rainbow Grandpa” Huang Yung-fu single-handedly painted this village to resist developers. Now a global Instagram hotspot (even featured in Lonely Planet!), every corner screamed joy. Don’t miss the lucky turtle murals!
🤦 1:00 PM – The Missing Giant at Dali Art Plaza
Our driver claimed the “Meditating Giant” sculpture was “blown away by typhoons”—turns out he just didn’t want to park! We snapped quick pics of the avant-garde exterior instead.

We accidentally stumbled upon this Yunnanese tradition—flaming torches lining the roads, folk dances, and a charity carnival at Qingjing Elementary School. Learned that many locals are descendants of Yunnan soldiers who retreated with the KMT in 1949.
